Recess Is Practice For Democracy | Jonathan Haidt

What do early American democracy and modern playground politics have in common? Unfortunately, not that much.

Jonathan Haidt believes that our current emphasis on safety and supervision, especially regarding how kids choose have fun, starkly contradicts the can-do spirit on which this country was built. If kids don’t get to experience autonomy and navigate the world at all before adulthood, they won’t have those skills when the country, and our free society, depend on it.
